Martha Muñoz Armitage, 42
Martha Muñoz Armitage passed away on Jan. 31, 2017, after an extremely brave and tough fight with breast cancer at age 42.
Martha was born Feb. 18, 1974, in Guadalajara, Mexico, to Salvador and Hermelinda Muñoz. She graduated from high school in Emmett, Idaho, in 1992. Following high school, Martha attended the University of Idaho and graduated with honors in 1998 with degrees in both finance and accounting.
Prior to her graduation, Martha began her career as an accounting intern at Albertson’s Corporate Offices in Boise, Idaho, where she was hired as an Internal Auditor upon graduation. During her internship, she met another accountant, Brett Armitage.
Martha and Brett were married on Aug. 9, 2003, at St. Thomas Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They moved from Seattle to Coeur d’Alene to begin a family in July 2004. Prayers were answered with the birth of Paloma Sofia in 2007, Isabella Serena in 2009 and Connor Tiernan in 2011. Her children were the greatest joy in her life.
Martha had a natural curiosity and passion for experiencing life to the fullest. She enjoyed exploring new places, foods and meeting people from different backgrounds along the way. Her greatest passions were food, exercise, books, music, movies, education, friends, and most importantly, family. She was a voracious reader who read everything from romance novels to the classics, including her favorite book, “Wuthering Heights.” She loved all types of music, but Pearl Jam in particular. She and Brett saw the band together on one of their first dates, and then saw every show in the Northwest together thereafter. She never missed a chance to see a movie with her family and really enjoyed comedies, superhero and romance. Her favorite movie was the classic, “Sabrina.”
Martha felt best when she was able to exercise and was determined to maintain this despite her cancer. She was training for her first marathon as recently as last August, after completing several half marathons and participating with her friends in several triathlons. While she was proud of becoming a U.S. citizen in 2010, she was equally proud of her Mexican heritage and always included its traditions and culture in everything she did. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was the most happy sharing a great meal, a Guinness, and a laugh with friends and family. She was always the first to lend an ear for those who needed to talk, give open and honest advice to those who asked, and unconditional support to whoever needed it.
Martha is survived by her husband, Brett; daughter Paloma; daughter Isabella (Isa) and son Connor. Martha is also survived by her mother, Hermelinda (Linda); father Salvador; and sisters Josefina (Jo), Raquel, Leticia (Lety) and Rocio (Lucy). Her surviving brothers are Alejandro (Alex), Salvador Jr. (Junior), Pablo (Paul) and Eduardo (Eddy).
