MARCH: What women want
Mr. Quinn belittled the Women’s Marches around the nation and the WORLD, as a liberal women’s protest. Labeling “liberal” as a four-letter word is not fair or accurate. The roots of the word liberalis or “suitable for a free man” do not apply to females since earliest origins of the word, being neither free nor a man.
Women fight for peace, wage parity, religious and personal freedoms and respect. If these women marchers are all liberals, I would be stunned. I can affirm that what they all possess in common is HOPE. HOPE that they will be seen and heard and gain equality.
What they certainly are is 50.8 percent of the American populace and they fear that the angry white males as part of the 49.2 percent have shouted over their thoughts, aspirations and goals.
The mistake Mr. Quinn makes is to lump and lift on a pedestal the American Woman. If you are one of Mr. Quinn’s decent (marchers are NOT decent?) wonderful (marchers do not wonder?) women of America then you need not leave the kitchen, I assume.
To paraphrase John Stuart Mill, when women had no vote or political “intellect,” “A wo/man who has nothing for which s/he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than her/his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better wo/men than her/himself.”
ACTION more than HOPE, through marches, opinions, posters and positive discussions moves change.
