Post Falls shoots past Peninsula
- BOYS BASKETBALL
COEUR d’ALENE — When a team makes 14 3-pointers in a game, it’s typically a good sign.
On Thursday, it was real good for Post Falls.
Jake Pfennigs had 28 points, 14 rebounds and four assists and Tanner McCliment-Call 23 points — both finishing with five 3-pointers each — for the Trojans in a 79-56 win over the Peninsula Seahawks of Gig Harbor, Wash., in the Lake City Holiday Classic at Lake City High.
“In the games we shoot the ball well, we typically have a lot of assists because the guys are making the extra pass,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “We had good ball movement and didn’t settle for what the defense was giving us.”
Colby Gennett had nine assists, six rebounds and three steals and Matt Fleming 13 points and three steals for Post Falls (5-4), which finishes the tournament against Mead today at 2 p.m.

SPOKANE — The Hawks heated up at the right time, outscoring the Grizzlies 39-27 in the second half for a victory in the West Valley tournament.
“In the first half, the basket seemed like it had ice cicles on it,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “All of a sudden, Newport hit a couple of shots and started to pull away. My assistant coach Deana Lange had a brillant idea and we switched up the defenses. All of a sudden, the ice melted and shots started dropping.”
Abbey Leon and Lauryn Cooper hit four 3-pointers in the second half, most coming in the third quarter.
“We just put it together and looked more like a team in the second half,” Seymour said. “The girls didn’t give up. Both Abbey and Lauryn hit some big shots in the third and fourth quarter. We just kept battling and closed it out in the fourth quarter. I was really, really happy for them.”
Cooper finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, four steals and four assists, Taylor Elpers six rebounds and six steals and Sofi Schnepf seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks for Lakeland (3-8), which concludes the tournament this morning against Riverside.
