4A Hawks shut down 3A power Kellogg

| December 15, 2017 12:00 AM

RATHDRUM — Even on an off night offensively, the defense was still enough for Lakeland in a nonleague showdown with Kellogg.

Jalen Skalskiy had nine points and nine rebounds and Kaden Davis scored 14 points for the Hawks in a 53-48 nonleague win over the Wildcats at Hawk Court on Thursday.

Kellogg is ranked third this week in 3A in the state media poll. Lakeland received votes in 4A.

“Even when things weren’t going great, we were still able to play defense and hold a really good team to 48 points,” Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. “If we can keep the defense that consistant, even on bad shooting nights, we should be pretty good.”

Lakeland (5-0) travels to Clarkston tonight at 7.

Chase Jerome scored 20 points for Kellogg (2-2), which hosts Deer Park on Saturday.
