Seven pins help Post Falls top Hermiston

| December 9, 2017 12:00 AM

POST FALLS — The visiting Hermiston Bulldogs started with three straight pins, and finished the night with one more. What happened in between was a black and orange blitz by the Post Falls Trojans at The Arena. Post Falls, behind seven pins of its own, beat Hermiston 54-28 on Friday night.

“I was really proud of how our kids reacted after falling behind early,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “We knew their upper weight kids were really strong, and I was proud of our team overall for turning it around and getting on a good roll.”

Roddy Romero (98 pounds), Issac Jessen (113), Jordan Grimm (120), Ridge Lovett (126), A.J. De La Rosa (132), Braydon Huber (160) and Coleton Kazmierczak (170) each won by pin for the Trojans.

Post Falls competes in the annual Tri-State Invitational next Friday and Saturday at North Idaho College.

after first day

SPOKANE VALLEY — Lakeland High’s Alex Edelblute (106 pounds), Sam Edelblute (113), Tavis Woempner (120), William Edelblute (126) and Logan Kelley (160) advanced to the semifinal round of the Inland Empire Classic at Central Valley High.

Lakeland is tied for fourth with Kamiakin of Kennewick with 89 points after the first day. Mead of Spokane leads the tournament with 119.5 points.

Payton Keough (132) and Max Peressini (152) advanced to the semifinals for Coeur d’Alene, which is 11th with 60 points.

“Both Payton and Max wrestled tough,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “It’s a tough tournament and both of them just approached it one match at a time and wrestled well. We only had 10 guys as a team, and still have eight in the consolation round. The true test will be tomorrow to see if these guys have the moxie and character to fight back and place.”

Semifinals are estimated to begin at 11 a.m., with championship finals at 4 p.m.
