Lake City thumps Lewiston

| December 8, 2017 12:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Lake City won a 5A Inland Empire League dual for the first time in Corey Owen’s 10th year as coach, beating Lewiston 60-26 on Thursday afternoon.

Zane Monaghan opened with a pin at 170 pounds, and it was followed by pins by five other Lake City teammates.

“We drew a really good weight class to start out,” Owen said. “Zane, he’s one of our team leaders and got down 7-2, but just kept fighting, reversed his opponent and pinned him. And it just kept rolling.”

Lake City also had pins from Mahlon Clark (195), Connor Dremann (220), Owen Hughes (285), Caden Hess (113) and Devin Sorrell (120), along with wins by forfeit in three other weight classes to build a lead.

“Those bigger guys did a good job of keeping it rolling,” Owen said. “We knew we needed to build a lead.”

Lake City competes at the West Valley duals tournament on Saturday.

Timberlake 49

Moscow 30

SPIRIT LAKE — The Tigers not only got their season off to a strong start by topping Moscow in a dual meet, but Timberlake’s wrestlers also help give their coach family bragging rights.

For the third straight year, Kelly Amos’ Tigers met brother Pat Amos’ Bears, and for the first time, the Tigers (1-0) earned the dual-meet win.

“We don’t really make a big deal out of it — just another meet where we try to wrestle well — but I’ll enjoy the bragging rights over the holidays,” Kelly Amos said.

Among the victors for Timberlake was Caleb Miller, who earned a 16-2 major decision at 145 pounds.

“Caleb wrestled fantastic for us — three rounds of solid wrestling against a good opponent,” Amos said.
