Gregory sparks Trojans in 5A IEL opener

POST FALLS — Down its leading scorer, someone had to step up for Post Falls against Lake City in the 5A Inland Empire League opener for both on Thursday.
It wound up being McKie Gregory.
Gregory scored off a deflection in the 18th minute for the lone goal as the Trojans beat the Timberwolves.
“It was a very defensive-based match,” said Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson, who sat leading scorer Diego Esquivel due to an injury suffered against Sandpoint. “We were keeping him warm just in case, but were able to get through it. To get a win was pretty huge.”
Tanner McCliment-Call had two saves for Post Falls (2-1), which hosts Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.
Chase Norris had six saves for Lake City, which hosts Lewiston on Wednesday at the Irma Andrel Soccer Complex.
First half — 1, PF, 18th, McKie Gregory (unassisted). Second half — none.
