Richard Michael Saltus, 48
Richard Michael Saltus, 48, passed away unexpectedly at home Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, in Rathdrum, Idaho. He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on March 31, 1969, the son of John and Patricia (Harrington) Saltus.
Richard attended the University of Montana where he earned his degree in business administration. After college he joined the Army, a career in which he took his responsibilities very serious and was incredibly proud of his time spent serving his country. In 2013, as a Major in the U.S. Army, he chose to retire to Rathdrum, Idaho, so he could be close to his teenage daughter.
Richard was a proud and busy member of the Knights of Columbus, the Rathdrum Lions Club and the University of Montana Alumni. He enjoyed spending time with his large extended family tinkering with the many vehicles he collected from his “bucket list,” or simply sitting on the floor playing with his beloved pups; Rosie, Buddy, Angel and JoJo.
Family and friends will especially remember Richard for his stories, lunch dates, life lessons, a shoulder to cry on and a hand, to help you back up. The love he had for the ones in his life was undeniable and unconditional.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Patricia. He is survived by his daughter, Julianna Saltus; brothers Michael and Cameron; and sisters Cherie and Suzy.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, Idaho, with full military honors.
Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Richard’s online memorial at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com and sign his guest book.
