Skaggs to join
Cougar basketball program
PULLMAN — Carter Skaggs, a 6-foot-5 sophomore transfer from Chipola College in Florida, has signed a Financial Aid Agreement to join the Washington State men’s basketball program beginning with the 2017-18 season, WSU head coach Ernie Kent announced Thursday.
“To get a player of Carter’s caliber at this point in the year is unique and fortunate,” Kent said. “He will be a great asset to the team with his ability to shoot the ball and his high basketball IQ. We’re excited to have Carter in a Cougar uniform.”
Skaggs completed his freshman year at Chipola College in 2016-17, starting two of 30 games played while averaging 7.7 points per game and shooting .421 from the field and .404 from beyond the 3-point arc. Prior to Chipola, Skaggs played one season at Bridgton Academy in Maine where he earned NEPSAC All-New England Class AAA second-team honors.
Skaggs will have three years of eligibility at Washington State. He joins a class of newcomers that includes graduate transfer Drick Bernstine (6-8, 220, Aurora Colo./North Dakota), junior college transfers Davante Cooper (F, 6-11, 233, Atlanta/Tyler JC-Texas) and Kwinton Hinson (G, 6-4, 215, Fairmont, N.C./Tyler JC-Texas) and walk-on freshman TJ Mickelson (G, 6-1, 160, Olympia, Wash./Capitol HS).
On Tuesday, WSU announced spring signee Roberto Gittens will not enroll at WSU for the 2017-18 school year, but will instead attend junior college.
