LETTER: Take news alert

| August 4, 2017 1:00 AM

I enjoyed reading Gary High’s letter to the editor on July 26 regarding Captain Ed Freeman. I took Gary’s advice and went online to learn more about Captain Freeman and discovered that Captain Freeman was a true hero and he more than deserved the Medal of Honor for his acts of courage heroism. What he did was incredible.

What bothered me about Mr. High’s letter was the misinformation regarding Captain Freeman’s death. It seems as Mr. High just regurgitated information he read somewhere on the internet and took it at face value without verifying anything.

Captain Freeman did not die last Wednesday at age 70. He actually died nine years ago in August 2008 at the age of 80. Perhaps the Post Falls Press should take a minute and, when possible, verify information, albeit a letter submitted by a reader, before printing.

Thanks for a great local newspaper!
