Augusta ‘Jo’ Johanna Younkin, 89

Augusta Johanna Younkin, “Jo,” was born on April 14, 1928, to Joel and Lewella Hansen in Rockwood, Ore.

The Hansen family grew to eight children, Lillian, Marie, Esther, Carl (“Bud”), Jo, Nita, Norie and David. In 1954, Jo married Robert Younkin. Jo and Bob lived in the U.K. and throughout the U.S. until Bob retired from the Air Force in 1968. From 1968 through 2004, Jo and Bob lived in Vancouver, Wash., where Jo worked at Jantzen and Hewlett Packard. In 2004, Jo and Bob move to Athol, Idaho, to live with son Larry and grandsons Jess and Steven.

Throughout her life, Jo was known as a very strong woman while being a caretaker for anybody who needed help. She loved her family, her friends, her pets and gardening. Jo passed peacefully on Aug. 1, 2017, at Schneidmiller Hospice House. She is survived by her brother, David; sister Norie; son Larry; grandson Jesse, Bugs and Snowball.

A viewing will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, Idaho, with a funeral service following at noon. Everyone is invited to attend a reception after the funeral at the Yates Gathering Center, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden.
