COEUR d’ALENE — Jackson Sumner gave up two hits over six innings, and also scored two runs, as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings defeated the visiting Lake City Timberwolves 3-2 in the first game of a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader Tuesday at Ted Page Field.

The second game was rained out. The teams will try to make up the game today.

“Jackson, again, threw great,” Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Mahin said. “We were only going to let him throw 85 pitches because he wants to pitch Friday against Lewiston. And Brett Kessee came in and shut them down.”

The Vikings are 12-5, 4-3 5A IEL.

Kodie Kolden drove in both runs in the first game for Lake City (7-7, 2-5).

“It was just a good high school game — we got ’em on, got ’em over, got ’em in,” Mahin said.

On Friday, Coeur d’Alene plays host to Lewiston in a 5A IEL doubleheader. On Saturday, Lake City is home vs. Post Falls in a league twinbill.
