Linda B. Copper, 69
April 13, 1948 — April 17, 2017
Linda B. Copper slipped quietly away from life at her home on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene on Monday, April 17, 2017. Her loving husband and daughters were with her as she succumbed to both lymphoma and multiple myeloma along with the burden of intense chemotherapy, radiation and a stem cell transplant. Throughout a three-year battle her stoicism, perseverance and hopeful outlook amazed medical professionals, her family and friends alike.
The youngest of five children born to Harold and Ella Buckingham of Rapid City, S.D., Linda is survived by husband Ken Copper of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; daughters Kelly Copper (Pavol Liska) of New York City and Katie (Doug) Diepholz of San Diego, Calif.; grandson Daniel Diepholz, also of San Diego; brother Robert (Judy) Buckingham of Rapid City; sister Susan (Chuck) Lein of Lafayette, La.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, sister Nancy Hauer and brother Don Buckingham preceded her in death.
After making a home for her husband and daughters in the cities of Tampa, San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, San Diego and other stops in her husband’s well-traveled radio broadcasting career, she decided it was time to pursue her own vocation. While her children were still in high school, she became a highly requested substitute teacher. Later, with her daughters in college, she became a teacher/librarian for the San Marcos, Calif., school district. She logged many years as head librarian at San Marcos Middle School and Mission Hills High School in San Marcos and is still recalled fondly by both students and teachers. Linda enjoyed travel, especially cruising, and playing Bridge and shooting pool. She was also a voracious reader.
A celebration of her life is planned for this summer in Coeur d’Alene. If so inclined, donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Linda’s name are welcome as a memorial. Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Linda’s memorial and sign her online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
