McDonald, Jessen lead Timberlake to sweep

| April 23, 2017 3:14 AM

KELLOGG — Behind the arms of Logan McDonald and Brendan Jessen, the Timberlake baseball team handcuffed Kellogg 12-0 and 5-1 in an Intermountain League sweep Saturday.

McDonald threw a one-hitter in a five-inning, mercy-rule-shortened contest. In the second game, Jessen yielded just one run for the Tigers (4-5, 4-1 IML).

“Of (Jessen’s) 63 pitches, 53 were strikes,” Timberlake coach Cameron Knigge said. “Kellogg put a lot of balls in play, but our defense was solid all day.”

Offensively, Timberlake was paced by Will McLemore, who totaled six hits on the day with four RBIs, including a pair of doubles.

Knigge lauded the play of Kellogg pitcher Tanner Mueller, who fanned 11 batters in the second game.

“He pitched real well for nearly seven innngs,” Knigge said of Mueller. “Kellogg is coming along as a program. I think they will be a darkhorse as the season continues.”

Timberlake resumes IML play on Tuesday at 4 when it travels to rival Priest River.
