Lake City blanks Sandpoint

• SOFTBALL

COEUR d’ALENE — Ashley Kaufman struck out five in five innings and Lacey Lemburg hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning as the Lake City Timberwolves beat the Sandpoint Bulldogs 10-0 on Thursday in a game moved back to Coeur d’Alene from Sandpoint due to soggy field conditions.

Emma Gray hit a solo homer in the third for Lake City (5-1).

“We were lucky to get the softball game in today,” Lake City coach Jesse Lenz said. “Sandpoint is a very well-coached team. Ashley Kaufman threw the ball extremely well and kept them off balance. At the plate, we had a couple of our young players really step up. I liked the two-strikes aproach by Emma Grey when she hit the home run, and the approach off the bench by Lacey Lemburg at the plate, and in the circle late.”

Bri Barlow had two hits for Sandpoint (2-1), including a bunt single in the fourth inning to break up Kaufman’s no-hitter.

Lake City travels to Lewiston on Saturday for a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader.

We had a lot of guys with some quality at-bats. We’re young, but every time we play, we get a little better.”
