Post Falls scores first win over Coeur d'Alene since 2010

POST FALLS — Allison Morris drove in two runs with a bunt single, then scored on Dinah Seymour’s double in the fourth inning as Post Falls edged Coeur d’Alene 3-2 on Friday in the first game of a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader.

It was the first win for Post Falls (4-4, 1-1 5A IEL) over Coeur d’Alene (3-4, 1-1) since 2010.

“I think its very exciting for our program, and we didn’t even come close to playing our best softball today,” third-year Post Falls coach Brian Stranger said. “We’re maturing, real fast.”

Coeur d’Alene won the second game 10-8.

In the first game, with runners at second and third in the fourth and the game scoreless, Morris dropped a bunt down the third-base line. She beat the throw to first, scoring Bailey Gleaves. She collided with the second baseman covering first, allowing Brooke Bowers to score from second.

Coeur d’Alene closed to within 3-2 on Kaylin Donovan’s RBI single with one out in the seventh, but Amanda Rouse retired the next two batters to seal the win.

In the nightcap, Kaylin Donovan hit a three-run homer in the third inning for Coeur d’Alene, and Natalie Sell and Betty Comack added solo homers. Donovan finished with four RBIs.

Casey Goleeke went 3 for 4 with three RBIs for Post Falls, and Brooke Bowers also went 3 for 4.

The teams are scheduled to meet again next Friday in a doubleheader at Coeur d’Alene.
