BETRAYED: Freedom Caucus folly

| April 5, 2017 1:00 AM

Last November in the general election, my wife and I went to the polls and voted straight Republican, thinking that if enough Republicans were elected, they would correct the abuses of power inflicted by the Obama administration and return some common sense to our government.

We were wrong.

The actions taken by Republicans on the repeal and replacement of Obamacare have proven that. Instead of acting as public servants and relieving us of this involuntary health care program, the Republican congressmen have gone off on “intellectual tantrums” and wrecked our chances of ending this oppressive Big Government program. In particular, those congressmen who describe themselves as the Freedom Caucus are to blame. Their actions were disgraceful. They put their own philosophies above the common good and they stood around playing on their intellectual fiddles while Rome burned.

This is not why Republicans were elected.

We need public servants in Washington, not people obsessed with their own power. We don’t need to make our government even less competent than it already is.
