IGNITE: Fiduciary, my foot
Re: Denny Davis’s quote about “ignite cda” (aka LCDC) on Friday, Sept. 23:
“The board is, and always has been, very diligent and thoughtful in expending and preserving public funds. This is a fiduciary responsibility to the public which each member takes very seriously.”
Remember McEuen?
Remember the petition drive to put Mayor Bloem and three members of her council on a ballot for possible recall if they would not change some of their expensive plans for McEuen?
Remember the promise of a total cost of $14.3 million during that petition drive?
Remember after the narrow failure of that drive, the cost was bumped up to around $21 million? The extra amount was equivalent to the cost of the planned 121 parking spaces under Front Street.
Therefore, I addressed LCDC and said that if they would eliminate the very unpopular plan for parking under the street, they would essentially be right back to the $14.3 million as promised to the people of Coeur d’Alene!
That would have been a true demonstration of “fiduciary responsibility to the public” in “expending and preserving public funds.” It would also have been the right thing to do and would have gone a long way toward soothing the general public.
