THE FRONT ROW WITH MARK NELKE: Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016
Week 1 — 49ers 28, Rams 0.
Week 2 — Rams 9, Seahawks 3.
So, using that logic, the San Francisco Kneeldowns should beat the Seattle Armlockers by 34 points in today’s adult football matchup some 300-plus miles to the west.
Now, even the most optimistic of S.F. fans knows that’s not going to happen — no matter how many bars of Ghirardelli chocolate they inhale before the game.
The Seahawks should ease their worried fan-sheep’s minds with a fairly easy victory. Unless they help with a turnover, the Seahawks are likely to keep the 49ers out of the end zone, and The Russell — even if he’s playing on crutches by then — will get the offense untracked.
Final — 31-6, unless Seattle really feels like rubbing it in, then perhaps 45-6.
The 49ers defense looked good against the Rams, but got thrashed in Week 2 when the big kids (Panthers) got out of school.
If Chip’s offense can score a touchdown or two against Seattle’s defensive bullies, that might be a win in itself in the Bay Area.
If the 49ers and Seahawks still have the same record in a month or two, then something good is brewing in San Francisco — or something is going horribly wrong in Seattle.
THEN THERE’s another the Seattle Playoff Teasers, a professional baseball organization which, apparently, is still playing meaningful games deep into September.
Who knew?
Seattle won eight in a row to get back into the wild-card hunt to tease its fans, then responded by losing two of three at home to the Astros.
Then lost two more out of three at “home” to the Blue Jays.
True, the games were played in Seattle’s home ballpark, but it sounded like Toronto was the home team, as Blue Jays fans appeared to outnumber fans of the Playoff Teasers — if not, they out-cheered them, at the very least.
Not an impressive turnout by the home fans during a rare September when their team’s games actually matter.
Does OKC need a baseball team?
Also, had to laugh watching The Sacred Felix Hernandez walk off the mound yelling “This is my house” during a strong outing against Toronto on Wednesday.
Hmmm ... whose house was it five days earlier, when he was chased after 4 1/3 innings of a 6-0 home loss to Houston, in perhaps Seattle’s most important game of the season to date?
And throw in the M’s other top two pitchers getting beaten by the “visiting” Blue Jays on successive nights — Taijuan Walker getting knocked out in the sixth inning (though it wasn’t a particularly terrible outing), and Hisashi Iwakuma not even finishing the fourth.
Still, the teams above them in the wild-card hunt are not exactly lighting it up, so the Seattle Playoff Teasers could remain news for one more week, at least.
