LEWISTON — Austin Garitone scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the Vikings past the Bengals in a 5A Inland Empire League match at Walker Field.

“Making the trip down here is never each and today was a little bit of a circus,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Lake said. “From a control and chippiness standpoint, it was out of control. For me as a coach, it’s a little frustrating, but we’re happy that we’re driving home with a win.”

Garitone scored on an assist from Gabe Nazemi in the sixth minute, then scored again on a penalty kick in the 38th minute for Coeur d’Alene (5-0-3, 3-0-1 5A IEL), which plays at Lakeland on Thursday.

POST FALLS — Following a scoreless first half, Damon Gilmor scored two goals in a 10-minute stretch, lifting the Trojans past the Dragons in nonleague play.

“We played a great first half; we really owned possession of the ball,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. “It was just grinding them down a little bit (in the second half), making them chase the ball around the field. That first touch in the final third, they (the Trojans) fixed that wonderfully in the second half.”

Gilmor picked up the scoring slack in place of scoring and assist leader Diego Esquivel, who was serving a one-match penalty for accruing five yellow cards to date this season.

“He opened up with two beautiful goals,” said Lawson of Gilmor, noting he did the same last week vs. Lake City. “Right now, he’s just in a zone.”

Post Falls (5-1-3), which has won four straight, returns to action Saturday at Moscow.

First half — none. Second half — 1, PF, Damon Gilmor (Nick Morris), 61:00. 2, PF, Gilmor (Josh Brisendine), 70:00. 3, PF, McKie Gregory (Morris), 75:00. 4, Malachi Huelar (Bailey Massender), 77:00.
