CLARK FORK — Bryar Sanchez accounted for five touchdowns, leading the Lakeside Knights to a 38-14 win against the Clark Fork Wampus Cats in a White Star League game on Friday night.

Sanchez had scoring runs of 35, 5 and 3 yards, and also threw for two scores, as the Knights (2-1, 1-1 WSL) were able to break contain, which in eight-man football means big plays.

Jordan Davison also got the edge for an 80-yard scoring romp, as the Knights capitalized on the Wampus Cats’ mistakes. Sanchez earned the respect of Clark Fork (1-2, 1-1 WSL) coach Brian Arthun.

“He’s just a really tough player. He just took over the game, ran the ball hard,” Arthun said. “We had trouble getting to him scrambling around. He broke contain quite a few times.”

Noah Bova rushed for 113 on 14 carries, including an 85 yard romp that gave the Cats a brief first quarter lead, and Wade Stevens had a strong game with 98 yards rushing on 10 attempts and 73 yards passing in defeat.

“Wade showed a lot of heart. He came out in the second half and played one of the better halves I’ve seen,” Arthun said. “We had three turnovers and multiple penalties. We’ll go back to the drawing board and work on fixing the things we’re not doing right.”

Lakeside hosts Garfield-Palouse next Friday in Plummer.

RATHDRUM — For the second straight week, the Hawks came up on the short end of a 1-point loss, falling to the Knights at Corbit Field.

Lakeland took a 20-14 lead on a touchdown by Wyatt Gatten in the fourth quarter, but had East Valley rally to take the lead with three minutes remaining.

Lakeland (1-2) drove to the 30-yard line and threw an incompletion, then connected on a pass to the 1-yard line, but had the ball pop out and roll into the end zone, recovered by East Valley to end the game.

“I was really happy with how our kids played without a few starters due to injury,” Lakeland coach Tim Kiefer said. “We haven’t had them for two weeks and ran a couple of different packages. Both Logan Siegford, who ran the team under center and Dylan Vahey, who ran plays in the shotgun, played really well. It was fun to watch.”

Lakeland will face Rogers High of Spokane on Thursday at Joe Albi Stadium.
