CONCLUSIONS: Look before leaping
I think Mike Reno is missing the opportunity to score a gold medal in the jumping sports at the Olympics! He certainly leapt a major distance in his comments about “preppers” and the “WaPo” article from Aug. 28.
Mike seems to know an awful lot about people he’s never met. While I’ve read his screeds here on the “Opinion” page, I’ve never met him in person. However, he seems to think he knows a lot about me by just having read the “Redoubt” article. While it’s true I WAS a firefighter/paramedic, I did NOT retire as one and thus do not draw a pension. Another of the gentlemen in the article served in the U.S. Navy but was not a government employee after his service. Another grew up in Detroit but never claimed to have been a government employee prior to moving here. Two of the gentlemen did retire after honorable service, one in the emergency field and he did retire on an injury but his department retired him as opposed to his putting in for retirement. The other gentleman retired after service with the U.S. Marine Corps.
None of us “skipped out” with a “sudden disability,” nor did we “spike” our retirements.
Speaking of “preppers,” only one of us used that term. The rest of us are here because we are tired of nanny governments, excessive taxation, unfair laws and big government. I have to wonder if Mr. Reno even read the entire article. Probably not as he was perfecting his broadjumping expertise.
