TACOMA, Wash. — Emily Aspden scored on an assist from Krista Kelly in the 84th minute as the North Idaho College soccer team beat the Tacoma Titans 1-0 on Saturday.

Former Lake City High standout Tiegan Horton stopped six shots in the shutout for NIC (2-1).

“It was an even game,” NIC women’s soccer coach Dan Hogan said. “Both teams had chances to score. Tiegan had another good game in goal, denying the few good chances they had throughout the game.”

NIC travels to Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Ore., next Saturday to open Northwest Athletic Conference play.

First half — none. Second half — 1, NIC Emily Aspden (Krista Kelly), 84:00.

TACOMA — Kobe Murphree scored on an assist from Max Mularski in the 87th minute for the Cardinals in a nonconference loss to the Titans.

“Tacoma was a final four team last year and are a big, physical, and well-coached team,” NIC men’s soccer coach Ken Thompson said. “We’re not using the midfield quite yet, but have a full week of practice before our next match, and I think we’ve got an advantage with that. If we can take the next step forward, we’ll be firing on all cylinders.”

NIC (0-2-2) travels to Columbia Basin College in Pasco next Saturday.

First half — 1, Tac, Edwin Brown (Corey Brinkman), 24:00. Second half — 2, Tac, Connor Desmond (penalty kick), 55:00. 3, NIC, Kobe Murphree (Max Mularski), 87:00.
