GOP: Now hear this

| September 2, 2016 3:55 PM

I recently wrote a LTE that the CDA Press entitled “GOP: Sad transformation.” After reading the comments online I cannot help but feel many people completely missed the point of my letter about the direction in which the GOP is currently going.

First, attacking someone for having different views is currently destroying the American Conservative movement at large. While I may be young, I am not oblivious to the state of the Union; in fact, I will have to endure the conditions which your votes put our country into for a much longer time than older generations. Forcing voting demographics to adapt to one style of politics is NOT how you win elections. In other words, America is no longer a very homogenous nation, and like it or not, the new America is diverse.

Second, I value personal freedoms for all Americans because I want our country to continue to succeed. This is achieved by allowing those who work hard to succeed with either a quality education or from a quality trade that cannot be exported. Success should not be dependent on your own personal beliefs or things beyond your control like your sex or race; rather it should be dependent on how hard you are willing to work to achieve success.

Finally, the GOP at large needs to stop the hypocrisy. Conservatives’ future success depends on its image with the YOUNGER generations, and my generation typically does not accept blatant racism, bigotry and hypocrisy as the status quo.
