CHURCH: Vote for mercy

On Wednesday Oct. 26, Annika Holmes’ letter expressed her disappointment regarding her recent Sunday morning worship experience while visiting a local church.

She referenced a pastor who, according to her, took a political stand regarding the upcoming presidential election and invited those who disagreed to meet with him afterward so he could explain his position. She went on to cite his “disparaging of homosexuals, pro-choice voters, and adulterers.”

In my world, as a Christ follower, mercy triumphs over judgment.

If Annika’s experience is indeed accurately reported, it gives credence to Gandhi’s quote on Christianity. “I like your Christ; I don’t like your Christians. Your Christians are nothing like your Christ.”
