3A GIRLS

TWIN FALLS — Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy held Weiser scoring machine Lauren Bouvia to “only” one goal, and Brooklyn Cunningham scored two minutes into overtime as the Panthers beat the Wolverines 2-1 in a state 3A girls soccer semifinal game Friday at the Sunway Soccer Complex.

Coeur d’Alene Charter (15-3-1) avenged a loss to Weiser (19-2-0) in last year’s title game, and advanced to its third straight championship game. The Panthers will play Community School (19-1-0) today at 1 p.m. PDT.

“I’m so proud of all members on this team,” Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “Everyone played a role. They knew what they had to do and they dug deep to play in every moment that was demanded of them. Weiser has some great talent, but nothing was going to stop the heart of the Charter team today.”

The UC Davis-bound Bouvia, who scored a national high school record 127 goals last season, including a hat trick in last year’s 4-1 win over Charter in the title game, came into Friday’s game with 93 goals scored this season.

“Izzy Lehosit and Emma Bartlett were told to always find her,” Smith said. “Between the two of them and with a little assistance from other players, we were able to keep her attempts minimal. Izzy and Emma played their roles very well today.”

First half — 1, Charter, Maya Burgess (Brooklyn Cunningham), 39:00. Second half — 2, Wei, Lauren Bouvia (unassisted), 71:00. First overtime — 3, Charter, Cunningham (Cece McAfee), 82:00.

Saves — Charter, Rachel Callister 10; Weiser unknown.
