TWIN FALLS — Cali Shipman and Brooklyn Cunningham scored two goals each for the Coeur d’Alene Charter Panthers in a 7-0 win against the Filer Wildcats in the opening round of the state 3A tournament Thursday at the Sunway Soccer Complex.

“I’m very proud of how we played in the first 30 minutes of the game,” first-year Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “It got a little frantic and forced for a while, but we were able to calm ourselves down partway into the second half and then finish what we had started in the first half.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (14-3-1) will face Weiser (19-1-0) in a semifinal match today. Weiser beat Coeur d’Alene Charter 4-1 in last year’s championship game. Coeur d’Alene beat Timberlake for the 2014 title.

“We know we’ve got a talented team with some strong players with Weiser tomorrow,” Smith said. “We’ve enjoyed our win tonight. We’ll refocus our efforts on how to manage their talent and still rely on ours in the morning.”

Cece McAfee had a goal and assist for Coeur d’Alene Charter.
