COEUR d’ALENE — Sandpoint product Sterling Healy scored on an assist from Jocelyn Cook-Cox in the 11th minute for North Idaho College in a 1-0 win against the Yakima Valley Yaks in Northwest Athletic Conference play at Eisenwinter Field on the campus of NIC.
With the win, NIC clinched a berth to the conference playoffs.
“The weather played a factor in this game,” NIC women’s soccer coach Dan Hogan said. “No standing water, but definitely spots that started very soft, which turned into mud after just a few players ran through them. There were several other near misses, but the footing was difficult, making accuracy nearly impossible.”
Former Lake City High standout Tiegan Horton had four saves for NIC (11-1-1, 9-0-1 NWAC), which hosts Columbia Basin College of Pasco, Wash., on Wednesday.
Yakima Valley is 4-8-1, 3-7.
First half — 1, NIC, Sterling Healy (Jocelyn Cook-Cox), 11:00. Second half — none.
Shots on goal — YVCC 5, NIC 19.

ONTARIO, Ore. — Freshmen Jose Perez and Irvin Angulo had first half goals — both coming from former Lake City High standout Kade Murphree — as the Cardinals beat the Chukars in a Northwest Athletic Conference match.
“We came out with a good mindset and played the ball quickly through the midfield,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “We looked sharp combining on passes and we moved Irvin from the back line to the front and were able to get our midfield knocking the ball around. They’re a pretty fast group and we’ll have an advantage somewhere if we play it right.”
Garrett Boyce had six saves for NIC (5-7-3, 5-5-1 NWAC), which hosts Columbia Basin College of Pasco, Wash., on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.
Treasure Valley is 3-10-2, 2-8-1.
