LETTERS: A triple response
I am a progressive and believe that any policy that does not take into account all social justice aspects of a policy related to that issue, does not support the people who the policy is meant to support.
Regarding Mr. Walsh, I agree that the Republican Party, the GOP, and conservatives are not representing their party interests currently. These groups have come to corrupt the true parameters of the Conservative movement for the last 70 years. They are truly self-serving at this time in history.
Where I disagree with Mr. Walsh is that our culture has become much more diverse and is much more accepting of our many different cultures, attitudes toward social change, and all human beings in general.
Also, the Republican establishment is much different than the Democratic establishment. Democrats and progressives recognize that the Republican establishment has lost all its integrity because of the choices it has made, up to and including the choice of its current presidential candidate.
It is up to each individual to make up their own mind. It is imperative that each human being votes for the candidate who matches their values. There will be many more opportunities to consider the alternatives based on what is happening in the political arena over the next month before the election.
Now, regarding The Liningers: The Kootenai County Task Force for Human Rights (that is their name) is made up of many people of diverse political and social views. There are Conservative and Liberal members who all support the goals and aspirations for keeping this community free of bigotry. Many of its members and supporters believe in their right to carry and use firearms for their personal experiences. I am not anti-gun and I am a gun owner. You, Mr. and Mrs. Lininger, cannot just lump any group or person into any of your “anti-gun, pro-gay, pro-pedophile, anti-church” view… we citizens are not “weirdos” or “lefties” or “getting food stamps” or “liberal leftists.” We are citizens of Kootenai County, and we fight against your bigoted views.
And finally, Mr. McDaniel, I do not think it is a stretch to openly state today that Conservatives who support Mr. Trump “…cannot see or will not acknowledge the criminal and incompetent acts of” Donald Trump “…for the same reasons that skunks are not offended by their stink.” I for one and only one citizen of this community, believe that the Coeur d’Alene Press is as reasonably fair as possible in their presentation of the facts as they can be in this current political and social environment. And I hope to hear from many other citizens about whether this newspaper is biased toward one person, or group, or another.
