SPEEDING: School zone bozos

| October 12, 2016 9:00 PM

Does anyone realize what the speed limits are in school zones? Well, on this last Friday morning around 7:30, a driver apparently couldn’t care less. As I pulled out of my real estate office heading east, the flashing yellow lights on Highway 53 were on and in full display, but this pickup driver with Washington plates drove right up behind me at a rather high rate of speed, much more than the 25 mph posted speed limit. Someone would have to be blind not to see these bright yellow lights flashing!

This impatient idiot proceeded to blast the horn continuously while tailgating me extremely close. That lasted for a good 20-30 seconds until the driver passed on the right side of the road. The diesel pickup blew out a black cloud of smoke when floored and this crazy driver continued on down the road exceeding the speed limit, totally oblivious to the school zone speed limit. Unfortunately, I could not read your plate number to turn you in to the local PD. Your road rage will catch up with you, hopefully soon. It’s called Karma!

Whoever you are, I hope that you end up with one heck of a fine in the future. I see these types of drivers many times during the week as they come into Rathdrum from the west. After driving 55 mph on Highway 53, they seem to forget what the in-town speed limit is, let alone in school zones.

This incident was reported to Rathdrum Police Department and they will, along with the Sheriff’s Deputies, be monitoring this situation during those posted school hours.

I am going to encourage The Press to publish all the local school zone speed limits and posted times in a format that drivers may keep handy in their vehicles. Unfortunately, many will continue to not pay heed to school zone speed limits.
