HEARN: Fight one-party rule

| October 9, 2016 9:00 PM

A recent letter writer stated: “There isn’t a single issue facing Idahoans that couldn’t use improvement,” and “Coeur d’Alene has a chance for new representation in Boise.” She is right, but her solution was to elect yet another Republican legislator. With eight years of service in the Legislature, I can tell you that is not the answer.

In the past decade Idaho has suffered under one-party Republican rule. Education budgets were slashed, millions of taxpayer dollars wasted defending unconstitutional laws, the homeowner’s exemption was capped resulting in higher property taxes for many, local control has been taken away in several instances, our infrastructure is eroding, and the list goes on. Yes, most issues in Idaho need improvement, and meanwhile the Republican platform calls for repealing the 17th Amendment so we the people could not vote for our U.S. senators.

Tom Hearn will be the new representation that we need and deserve in Boise. He represents not just a new face in Boise, but a new voice and an opportunity to help end one-party rule. Tom has an exemplary record of serving the public good in Kootenai County. He is a successful businessman, has served on many boards, and is currently on the school board of District 271. Tom is a person of integrity, sound judgment, long-term involvement in our community, and has the experience and work ethic to properly serve the people of District 4.

Tom Hearn has what it takes to serve you well in the Legislature, and I encourage you to vote for him.
