CHURCH: Speak up, leaders

Another letter Sunday about the pastor at Candlelight expressing his opinion on the platforms of the candidates in this year’s election. None of this will sway anyone on either side, but this has gone on too long. It’s about time the leaders of our churches, under siege for AT LEAST the last eight years from government sources and people in the community who disagree with the beliefs, spoke up. Look what happened to The Little Sisters of the Poor and their hospital, for which they asked for and received NO government funding. They had to spend thousands, maybe more than that, defending their freedom to provide or deny services to patients, who, by the way, can receive these same services from Planned Parenthood, or other sources…public hospitals? This was done to “comply with the standards of Obamacare.”

Also, how about Hobby Lobby, who spent probably millions defending their RIGHT to also provide or deny services based on their beliefs? They closed their doors, putting thousands out of work rather than capitulate. So the pastors should stop encouraging people to follow their conscience? Think again. If they’re not getting government funds, why should they be silent?
