Breast cancer survivor: 30 years and counting

My journey began when I was a young of 26 years old. My son was 18 months old and I began to notice a discolored fluid from my breast. I really didn’t give it a serious thought. I went to my Ob-Gyn and we did cytology slides on the fluid. To our surprise they came back with cancer cells on the pathology report.

I then saw a surgeon and had a biopsy that confirmed the results. My mastectomy followed a couple of weeks later and my lymph node biopsies were confirmed negative.

At the time if you had negative nodes you didn’t have chemo or radiation.

Later I did have a simple mastectomy on my other breast. I am a survivor 30 years later.
