| June 25, 2016 9:00 PM

Boyd Barton Bumpus, 82, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2016. Boyd was born in Spokane, Wash., on March 30, 1934.

As “Sole Surviving Son,” he was not in the military. He attended Columbia Grade School and Rogers High School (’51) in Spokane. He was involved, with his father, in the Moose Lodge for many years. He had many jobs as a child and as a teen, got his first “real” job. When 18, he sat on the loading dock at Columbia Lighting in Spokane, until they hired him to free-up the dock! Boyd remained in that business for 64 years, until the time of his death.

He was called “The Energizer Bunny” because of his unending amount of energy, and, “The Old Man of Lighting” when he out-lived many of the other experts in the U.S. as he got older. Although he started his career at Columbia Lighting, he traveled the U.S. many times designing and supplying many large buildings with lighting. He lit most of the tallest buildings west of the Mississippi including Dallas, Chicago, L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, Portland and several others in the Pacific Northwest. He was also privileged to light buildings in the New York area, including the Library of Congress in D.C. He did much of the lighting at The Coeur d’Alene Resort, Hagadone corporate offices, many of the new high rise condos and apartments in and around Coeur d’Alene and worked with many local churches in designing and up-grading their buildings.

Boyd loved to water ski and snow ski and was very good at both. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and, EVERYONE was Boyd’s friend!

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers (Norman and Lee Bumpus); and two sisters (Claudine Uttke and Joyce Friedland). He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Diana Simpson Bumpus; his daughter, Julie Beckman (Rich), and granddaughters Tara and Marissa; his son, Jeff (Robyn), and grandchildren Tyler and Hayden; stepson Craig Shoquist; and his sister, Doris Meyer (Norman); and many nieces and nephews.

He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. His family suggests that memorials be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church, 812 N. Fifth St., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814, in his memory.

Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Please visit Boyd’s online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
