It's never too late, just do it
I don’t often wear shirts with sayings on them but added one recently to my wardrobe. It features a variation of the Nike slogan, "Just Do It" with the addition of the word "Later." Some have interpreted it as celebrating procrastination but I choose to view the words to mean it’s never too late.
Often we think, "Oh, I wish I would have done that in my 20s or 50s" or whenever. We can still do just about anything we put our mind to, even if it is later than we originally planned. I recall a Dear Abby column many years ago where a reader was debating whether to go to college and then to law school, bemoaning the fact that when she graduated in eight years she’d be 40. Dear Abby’s response: how old will you be in eight years if you don’t go to law school?

The passing of Ida Hawkins at age 94 is the end of an era for our neck of the woods. She epitomized a life well-lived.
I knew Ida for decades through her children but for those of you not fortunate to have known this remarkable woman, read her Yates Funeral Home obituary at cdapress.com. It’s a blueprint on how to overcome trials and make a life of consequence.

Congratulations to Kylee Solberg, the newly-crowned Miss Idaho who’s heading to the Miss America Pageant in September. Her commitment to a goal over the past two years paid off for the CHS and NIC grad.
Another hometown success story is Marcus Colbert, a stand-out Post Falls High School basketball player who made his mark in a big way playing hoops at Montana State University. He just graduated and signed a contract to play professional basketball in Belgium. Kudos Marcus for keeping your eye on the big picture.

IHM alum and longtime Coeur d’Alene Press department head Dave Walter retired to St. George, Utah a few years back. Even for the beautiful desert country of St. George, this heat wave’s triple digit temperatures have prompted special consideration. Dave snapped a photo of his local bank with pot holders affixed to the outside entry door handles so customers wouldn’t burn their fingers. Now that’s good customer service!
