GUNS: Blame the person
In response to Chris Carlson’s “The time is here for gun law changes,” I disagree with his opinion. As most anti-gunners do, he advocates blaming the implement and not deal with the person of ill intent behind it. The problem is much larger than an inanimate object but it is easier for anti-gun people to control it rather than people. You can’t legislate safety and even if you were able to completely eliminate guns, those wishing to do harm would still find ways to hurt others.
The media reporting the incidents just adds fuel to the fire for those committing these heinous public murders. To drastically cut down on occurrences, you need to stop giving them attention. I advocate safety training as well but you will have minimum impact on catching mentally unstable people by asking instructors to watch out for them; even with training. The Orlando shooter went through training and bought his rifle legally. I doubt he showed any warning signs. How do you catch a guy who hasn’t broken the law yet?
There may be a positive effect if you can fix morality in society but that would take decades if you started right away. I suggest rather than trying to take the easy way out by blaming guns as the problem, maybe we should begin addressing our societal failures and move forward from there.
