Cd'A QB Yankoff commits to Oregon

Incoming Coeur d’Alene junior quarterback Colson Yankoff made it official on Saturday afternoon — he’s going to be a Duck in 2018.

Yankoff, listed at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, verbally committed to the University of Oregon, his high school coach Shawn Amos confirmed.

Yankoff also had offers from Boise State, Duke, Idaho, Iowa State, Montana State, Texas Tech, Utah, Washington State, Brigham Young, Oklahoma State, Stanford and Washington.

“He certainly has the skill set to succeed at Oregon,” Amos said. “They did a very thorough job when they were recruiting him, and I think he’ll be an excellent fit.”

Verbal commitments are non-binding by either side. The earliest Yankoff can sign a letter of intent is February 2018, his senior year.

Yankoff will be a junior in the fall, taking over as the full-time quarterback after splitting reps with Austin Lee in 2015. Yankoff, who appeared in eight games for Coeur d’Alene, completed 63 of 101 passes for 825 yards and seven touchdowns. He also carried the ball 28 times for 153 yards and five touchdowns.

“I don’t think they (Oregon) wanted him to commit this early,” Amos said. “But I think with the offer and the program they’ve built, it was pretty hard to resist.”

Against Moses Lake, Yankoff threw for a season-high 201 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings’ 17-14 win against the Chiefs on Sept. 18 in Coeur d’Alene.

Coeur d’Alene opens the 2016 season at Folsom, Calif., on Aug. 27.
