Allan L. ‘Bud’ Filson, 65

Allan L. “Bud” Filson, 65, was born Oct. 11, 1950, in Fairbanks, Alaska, to Bonnie Jean Filson and Harry Bud Filson.

He attended elementary schools in Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska, before moving with the family to Spokane. He graduated from North Pines Junior High School in Opportunity, Wash. He attended one year of high school in Sandpoint before returning to Spokane and graduated from University High School on June 2, 1968.

On Nov. 12, 1968, Bud entered in the U.S. Navy. During his four-year enlistment, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea) and the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star. His last duty station was aboard the U.S.S. Brooke where he was a Missile Fire Control Technician. Allan was honorably discharged at San Diego Naval Station on April 19, 1972, with the rank of Petty Officer, 3rd Class.

From San Diego, Allan moved to Medford, Ore., and worked as a commercial and residential fire alarm installer for Federal Automatic Alarms; then as a shipping/receiving clerk for a wholesale electronics company. In 1975, he moved to Spokane and worked as a prototype assembler for American Sign and Indicator.

He began his formal electronics education at Spokane Community College in 1976 and graduated in 1979 as a Master Electronics Technician. For the next nine years, Allan worked for Tektronic, Inc., first as an electronics technician, then as a performance engineer and trainer. For the next five years, he was an electronics service technician for Southwest Electronics in Spokane. In 1997, he joined TS Products of Post Falls as a final inspector/troubleshooter and retired for health reasons in 2001 after two years with Mor Manufacturing.

Bud was well-liked but quiet and preferred the serenity of his home in Northshire Estates. He was meticulous and extremely organized. He was frugal, but generous to those in need. Innovative, creative and an electronics genius all come to mind in describing his nature. His hobbies were woodworking, leatherwork, billiards, sewing and knitting. He also had a special fondness for travel, astronomy and heavy metal music — especially Iron Maiden.

He is survived by numerous friends and one special love, Marge Thun, of Post Falls.

Bud will be buried at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of his funeral and burial arrangements. Please visit Bud’s online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
