KITTENS: End abandonment
I’d like to confront the moronic, socially irresponsible jerk who dropped off in my neighborhood recently several half-starved kittens. If this coward had simply taken the mother cat and her kittens to the Kootenai Humane Society, which has a no-kill policy, for a reasonable donation they would have been adequately accommodated. Now, I’ll do my best to trap these kittens and take them to KHS. Two of the cats are calico, so I must assume they’re female and, if they survive, will reproduce more starving, disease-prone, frightened offspring.
If the Coeur d’Alene City Council accomplishes nothing else in its next session, these representatives of the citizenry ought to pass an ordinance which stipulates a strong misdemeanor charge for anyone caught dropping off an unwanted animal within city limits. This law should include anyone owning a cat or dog who has not had the animal spayed or neutered. Obviously, proof of alteration could be provided, if required, by documentation or by reference to a licensed veterinarian.
