COEUR d’ALENE — Post Falls teammates Jordan Grimm (106 pounds) and Queong Rahman-Smith (152) picked up wins in the championship rounds as the Trojans ran away with the team title at the North Idaho Rumble on Saturday at Coeur d’Alene HIgh.

“It was an awesome weekend,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “The kids wrestled great and finished strong. I couldn’t be happier.”

Grimm beat William Edelblute of Lakeland by a 4-2 decision.

“For Jordan, that was a huge win and he’d never beaten him before,” Reardon said. “In the first match of the year, he lost 7-1 to him, and it’s been a goal of his for a long time. He’s really closed the gap and got the monkey off his back by getting the win.”

Rahman-Smith pinned Dylan Huber of Kellogg in 1:52.

“Queong has really stepped it up and put it together for us in the last few weeks,” Reardon said. “He’s always been talented, but had trouble finishing matches last year. But he’s starting to wrestle really well right now.”

Ridge Lovett (98), Matt McLeod (120), Jason Burchell (132), Tyler Wolf (138) and Alius De La Rosa (145) also won championships for Post Falls, which finished with 293.5 points.

Larry Johnson (126) and Jared Walker (170) won titles for Lakeland, which finished second with 191 points and nine placers.

“Jared and Larry wrestled really solid all weekend,” Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute said. “Larry probably had one of the toughest weight classes in the tournament, but both showed how tough they were throughout.”

Robby Smith of Kellogg won the 160-pound title.

Casey Randles of Sandpoint remained undefeated by capturing the title at 182 pounds.

Coeur d’Alene had eight placers, including runner-up finishers Dylan Lockwood (138), Mario Peregrina (145), Kaleb Maciosek (113) and Alex Marshall (220), to finish third with 181 points.

“I thought we wrestled well with four in the finals,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “There’s a couple of weights I wish we would have wrestled a little better, but the guys in the finals wrestled well. Overall, I was pretty pleased with the guys. All of them put forth a good effort.”

Lake City finished with three placers, Nathan Lambert (third at 152), Rusty Dan (fourth at 195) and Andrew Olvera (fifth at 170).

“We’re as healthy as you be after a tough tournament like this,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “We’ll taper things down here in the next couple of weeks and try to get all the guys healthy and focus on getting better for regionals.”
