MISSOULA — Kaleb Maciosek (113 pounds) and Dylan Lockwood (138) advanced to today’s semifinal round of the 39th annual Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic at Sentinel High.
Maciosek beat Bryce Shaffer of Flathead by a 5-2 decision in the quarterfinals and Lockwood beat Shawn Olson of Hellgate (Missoula) by a 6-5 decision.
“Both of them in the quarterfinals wrestled tough kids and won close matches,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “They just gutted it out and did a good job of winning those matches. Both have tough matchups in the semifinals, but they did a good job of getting to this spot.”
Coeur d’Alene has four wrestlers alive in the consolation bracket, and is 13th with 64.5 points.
“The young guys on our team fought like crazy, and it wasn’t for lack of effort, but inexperience that they came up short,” Moffat said. “We haven’t been in this position in a long time with having to compete with as many younger kids as we have, but the kids are fighting.”
Lake City has two wrestlers in consolation rounds, and is 27th with 22 points.
Havre leads the tournament with 107.5 points.
Finals are scheduled to begin tonight at 5 p.m., and will be preceeded by a college wrestling match between North Idaho College and Great Falls.
