Genesis Prep wins twice

at Phoenix tourney

PHOENIX — Junior Williams scored 12 points and Stephane Manzi added 10 points for Genesis Prep in a 42-36 overtime win against Trevor Brown High of Phoenix in the opening game of the Phoenix tournament at South Mountain High.

“It was a tough game, but it was one of those games where we just couldn’t take care of the ball and played out of character,” Genesis Prep coach Marsell Colbert said. “We defended decent, but the shots weren’t falling. But at the end of the day, we got the win and learned some valuable lessons.”

“We played much better as the game went on,” Colbert said of the South Mountain game.

The tournament continues today with Genesis Prep facing Cesar Chavez High of Phoenix.
