PREP BASKETBALL: Vikings hold off NW Christian

- BOYS

COEUR d’ALENE — Joey Naccarato scored 11 of his game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter, and Sam Matheson hit four straight free throws down the stretch to help the Coeur d’Alene Vikings hold off Northwest Christian of Colville 73-66 on Monday night at Elmer Jordan Court.

“We jumped on them early and got a nice lead,” Coeur d’Alene coach Tony Hanna said. “But they have a heck of a team. They kept after us and hit some timely shots to get back in the game.”

Hanna said Northwest Christian won the State B title in Washington last year, and believes they have the team to battle for it again this season.

Ryan Ricks hit a 3 late in the game to tie it up 66-66 for Northwest Christian, before Coeur d’Alene’s Justin Kofmehl answered with a 3 on the other end and Matheson iced the game at the line.

Ricks finished with 16 points and six-foot-seven Asher Cox added 19 points.
