COEUR d’ALENE — Joey Naccarato scored 21 points for the 5A Coeur d’Alene Vikings, who jumped out to an 17-9 lead after the first quarter and went on to beat the 1A Division II Genesis Prep Jaguars 59-45 at Elmer Jordan Court on Thursday.
“I really liked how we played defensively in the first half,” Coeur d’Alene coach Tony Hanna said. “We were able to get some steals and transition buckets early in the first half and just played a solid first half.”
Junior Williams scored 20 points for Genesis Prep (2-2). Stephane Manzi and Jacob Schroeder added 10 points each for the Jaguars, who compete in a tournament in Phoenix next Wednesday through Friday.
“They’re one of those teams that you can’t let them get going,” Hanna said. “We did a good job on (Jonny) Hillman and held him to five points, but they had some other guys step up and do a good job.”

SCAPPOOSE, Ore. — Weather conditions caused a Trojans game to be canceled for a second straight day.
And with school canceled in the southwestern Washington area today, Post Falls’ games today with Union of Camas, Wash., and Saturday at Battle Ground (Wash.) were also called off.
The Trojans head home without playing any of the games on their scheduled four-game road trip. Post Falls athletic director Craig Christensen said he hopes to find some games later in the season to replace the ones lost on this trip.
