PREP ROUNDUP: Lake City pins down sweep

COEUR d’ALENE — Chase Lathim’s pin at 145 sealed the dual for the Lake City Timberwolves in a 40-39 win over the East Valley Knights on Wednesday at Lake City High.
Lathim led 4-2 after two periods, then got the pin in 5 minutes, 11 seconds to clinch the match.
“He did an amazing job of getting on top and getting a pin,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “It was really impressive.”
Earlier, Lake City got pins at seven different weights to beat West Valley 68-15.
Lake City travels to the West Valley duals tournament on Saturday.

SPIRIT LAKE — Brayden Menti scored 15 points as the Tigers held off the Jaguars in a nonleague game.
“We went down 21-11 after the first quarter, but switched up our defense and held them scoreless in the second quarter,” Timberlake coach Michael Scott said. “Genesis Prep battled back hard and they’re well coached. Our boys stood up to the challenge.”
Timberlake (2-1) hosts Lakeside Friday.
Jonny Hillman scored 23 points for Genesis Prep (0-1), which faces Kootenai on Friday at Post Falls Middle School.
“It was good to get something on film to see where we’re at,” Genesis Prep coach Marsell Colbert said. “We saw some good things and some things we need to work on. We started the game out strong, but then hit a lull and we couldn’t get the ball to drop in the basket.”

RICHLAND, Wash. — Bridget Rieken had 24 points and seven rebounds, but the Timberwolves fell to the Bombers for their first loss of the season.
“We just couldn’t knock any shots down,” Lake City coach Bryan Kelly said. “We had a lot of chances, but just couldn’t get them to fall. We got down quick and in a hurry in the first half. We played a really good second half, but the first wasn’t up to our caliber”
Lake City (5-1) visits Pasco on Friday.
