Schoch second
as T-Wolves
finish sixth in Polson
POLSON, Mont. — Lake City senior Griffin Schoch advanced to the finals of the Owen Invitational, finishing second in the 152-pound title match by pin as the Timberwolves finished sixth with 99 points at Polson High.
“Griffin had a really good tournament,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “He was in a tough weight class, and it was good to see him get to the finals.”
Sophomore Zane Lettau (285) and senior Chase Lathim (145) finished third for Lake City.
“I was really impressed with the way Zane competed all weekend,” Owen said. “It was a tough tournament for him to wrestle here and he finished with two pins. He’s really starting to put things together. Chase is another senior that’s starting to figure it out. It’s exciting to see those seniors have that success because they’ve worked so hard.”
Lake City hosts East Valley and West Valley on Wednesday, and will wrestle West Valley at 5:30, followed by East Valley at 7.
Sentinel High of Missoula won the tournament with 155.5 points.
Vikings go 0-3 in final
day at Buck’s Bags
tourney
BOISE — Senior Casey Randles finished the weekend unbeaten at 5-0, but the Vikings, wrestling shorthanded due to injury, lost their final three matches to finish the Buck’s Bags duals tournament 3-3 at Capital High.
Coeur d’Alene lost to Spring Creek (Nev.) 57-27, Minico 63-18 and Fruitland 42-31 on Saturday after winning its first three matches to advance to the gold bracket.
“We ran into two tough teams that are in the finals against each other (Minico and Spring Creek),” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “We were giving up three forfeits today, so it was hard to make up that ground. Against Fruitland, we had a chance to win and it was a close match. We didn’t wrestle a weak team the entire weekend. The guys wrestled eight matches in three days, so it served its purpose by coming down here to get some match time. We made steady improvements all weekend. We need to cut down on the little mistakes, but we should be OK.”
Coeur d’Alene (4-4) competes in the Inland Empire Classic next Friday and Saturday at Central Valley High in Spokane Valley.
