DAMS: Breaching bad idea
Thanks so much for the article by Chris Carlson about the dams. I can’t believe we are still talking about this.
First of all I am incensed because I helped pay for the dams. There ought to be another way to help the salmon: Fish ladders, netting and transporting, etc.
So, we breach the dams (we don’t haul the material away) and they are very ugly. I have seen a few breached dams and they are very ugly.
Now we breach the dams and we all stand around holding hands and praying the salmon actually decide to swim up the river. What is the proof this will happen?
Then we return to our cold dark homes because we have no electricity. These dams allow us the cheapest electricity in the nation.
Only an idiot would ever think of breaching these dams. The lakes provide lots of opportunities for recreation and aquatic habitat (like Lake Coeur d’Alene) and the dams provide vital electricity. Surely there has to be a better way.
