STRANDED: Check this list
Trisha Bowlin let a couple of items off of needed items for boat owners to carry. She forgot to mention life vest (1 per person in the boat), a noise signaling device (whistle, canister air horn, etc.). Just these to items would have prevented serious injury more than likely. I can’t believe this family were the only boat on the lake and therefore a noise device would have been useful in alerting others around them of their predicament. Boating law states you MUST RENDER AID TO ANY VESSEL IN DISTRESS. Failure to do so is a punishable offense.
When a window breaks in your home, you spring a leak under the sink, the A/C doesn’t put out cold air, the newspaper isn’t delivered, would you call the police? It falls on the boat owner (captain) to ensure he is learned in what needs to be available to him to deal with any and all situations and emergencies he may encounter while afloat. Myself, I would never take my family out on the lake not being prepared. The blame lays on his shoulders, not the law enforcement community. May God continue to watch over them, and the Kross family also.
