FAIR: Audit, indeed

| August 24, 2016 9:00 PM

What did I miss?

An internal audit raised concerns about how money is being spent by fair staff. Commissioner Green said the earlier audit showed “sloppy accounting.”

Imagine you had “sloppy accounting” in your own personal checkbook! What is “sloppy accounting” anyway? The numbers either add up or they don’t.

Commissioner Eberlein’s comment about “the fair is precious and people become aware of their agrarian roots” (it’s OK to look up that word). He also says no one wants “to spoil the spirit of the fair” and exactly how is an audit going to do that? Don’t most audits take weeks to perform? Sounds like he is throwing up a smoke screen.

When the county clerk suggests doing a forensic audit and two of the commissioners oppose it, kind of makes you wonder what are they afraid of?

How much does a forensic audit cost anyway?
