COEUR d’ALENE — The Lake City Timberwolves took seven of 12 matches to top the Coeur d’Alene Vikings in a tennis match on Thursday afternoon.

At Lake City, the Timberwolves swept in boys singles, with Jack DuCoeur, Chris Vargas and Clayton Hill each winning in straight sets.

“Our boys singles have been playing really well and getting stronger,” Lake City boys coach Bob Brunn said. “Chris has been our most steady player this season, and Jack has been playing well lately. Clayton, he’s been sick all week and really should have been in bed today.”

The teams split in boys doubles.

“Our doubles teams are getting better and better,” Brunn said. “It was good to get the split.”

In girls matches at Coeur d’Alene High, the Vikings swept the Timberwolves in doubles, with another split in mixed doubles.

“Lauren (Carlsen) and Sara (Switer) had another great match,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Laura Taylor said. “They just needed some mental toughness to come back. They’ve needed that in their previous two matches and played great today.”

On Tuesday, Coeur d’Alene hosts Lakeland and Lake City plays at Post Falls.
